Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt: One Belt To Rule Them All?

All right you gun nerds—we’ve got an epic battle belt review that’s going to take you on a journey as grand as Frodo Baggins traveling across Middle Earth.

Whether you’re a gun-slinging airsoft warrior, closet gear junky, tactical outfit range shooter, hunter, military, LE, or just an idealistic shire-living guy, having the right tools for your life is important.

There’s a lot of shooting equipment out there, and as much as we’re sure you like spending money on questionable things, we are going to do you a favor and give you some practical insight into the Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt.

What Is A Battle Belt?

First things first: what, in Gandolfs name, is a “battle belt” (a.k.a. war belt, gun belt, tactical belt, duty belt, utility belt)?

In simplest terms a battle belt is a waist carrying device that holds things you would need in a battle. This often includes firearms, tactical support equipment, PPE (Personal Protection Equipment) restraints, and/or emergency first aid equipment.

Why Would You Need A Battle Belt?

Not all of us are living in a constant state of running from Orcs and fighting off evil Wizards, but you may want a battle belt setup for activities like Close Quarter Battle (CQB) training, airsoft battles, competition shooting, or as part of your kit for home defense.

For others, your job may involve policing, personal security details, or even life in actual combat. One thing to note when choosing a battle belt setup: they are not meant for concealed firearm carry purposes.

Battle belts, like many other tactical gear items, are usually a little bulky—and even slightly uncomfortable—to wear. Nevertheless, they serve an important purpose.

What Is A Military Duty Belt Made Of?

A quality battle or duty belt will be a two-part item, with an inner soft belt and a rigid outer belt. The Grey Ghost Gear (GGG) UGF Battle Belt has this system.

The inner soft belt is meant to be looped through your pants or shorts belt loops. This acts as the stability system for your outer belt. The outer belt has all your “battle” items connected to it, usually in the form of a MOLLE webbing system.

The outer belt will velcro to the inner belt while around your waste. This velcro and belt loop system allows you to draw your firearm (or any other items from this tactical belt) while keeping everything else attached at waist height and preventing them from “riding up” on you.

Choosing a Battle Belt Setup

When picking your battle belt setup, you’ll want to take into consideration the thickness of the belt. Some designs have an extra wide belt, for added comfort, but this is a matter of preference.

The GGG UGF Belt sports a width of 2” for the outer belt width and 1.5” on the inner belt. This means you can wear it with most clothing items (we’re talking to you, “I-wear-a-Hawaiian-shirt-and-shorts-to-the-shooting-range-guy”).

The GGG UGF Belt has .5” loops to attach MOLLE web products. And extra top loops to work with GGG Suspenders for those needing extra support for especially heavy battle belt setups.

Why We Think The GGG UGF Battle Belt Is A Great Duty Belt Option

Why is this tactical belt one of our favorites? The GGG UGF Belt is rugged and well designed. It’s not so thick that it gets in the way, and the fabric quality is strong and built to last. The fact that you can choose from a variety of colors (Multicam, Black, Coyote) and sizes (see below) to customize your war belt is great too.

Waist sizes run:

  • Small: 34"-36"
  • Med: 37"-39"
  • Large: 40"-42"
  • Extra Large: 43"-44"

Customizing And “Breaking In” Your Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt

Now, how can you set up your belt to take on all the battles ahead on your epic journey? This is really up to you and how you are going to use it.

Tactical Belt Accessories

To start, we recommend a hard-molded or Kydex-style holster that fits your gun.

Next, it’s always good to have a couple of pistol magazine pouches or holders. This can be the modern “taco” style or the Kydex style.

Thirdly, we recommend at the least a tourniquet holder, or place for your tourniquet, and even a small medical emergency first aid kit.

If you want something setup for a more tactical situation, adding AR-15 Mag pouches is a good touch. Be sure to also create spots for items like a flashlight, radio pouch, pepper spray, knife, dump pouch or restraints.

Getting Comfortable In Your Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt

The best way to get comfortable wearing a tactical belt is to start with a few attachments, see how you like the fit, and adjust as needed. We suggest doing domestic activities with your battle belt on—like cleaning the house, vacuuming, mowing the lawn, etc. (Tell your wife we said, “you’re welcome”.)

It’s also important to practice defending against Middle Earth demons by doing dry-fire and mag-swap drills. This way you’ll build muscle memory with where your items sit on the belt, so you can quickly and accurately access what you need in high-stress situations.

If you’re feeling like you want some extra tactical practice with your Grey Ghost Gear UGF Battle Belt, find your nearest (and most willing) friend, child or significant other and run through some protection practice and even tourniquet drills with them too.

Any opportunity to practice applying your battle belt setup to its fullest potential is a great way to master using this epic tactical tool.

Happy Shooting!
